SUMMARY:Soil Health Day in the Kawarthas
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a practical\, hands-on Soil Health Day — designed to give you real\, usable strategies for building healthier\, more productive soils. \nKick off the day with “The How to\, Where\, When and Why of Soil Sampling” and find out why soil testing is one of the most important tools for making informed\, cost-effective decisions. Dive into the latest Greenbelt Soil Testing Program research outcomes\, and learn what the data is telling us about soil health across the region. Then\, wrap up with “Smarter Nitrogen Management: Cutting Emissions\, Not Yields”—a session packed with practical insights on reducing nitrous oxide emissions without compromising crop performance. \nWalk the fields\, dig into soil\, and connect with other producers and experts who are improving soil from the ground up. \nWoodleigh Farms\nMonday\, Aug.18   9:30 – 2:30 \nLunch included with $10 registration. SUMMARY:Exploring Nitrogen Strategies On-Farm with Norm Lamothe
DESCRIPTION:The Ontario Soil Network (OSN) and Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario (EFAO) are excited to collaborate on an event hosted by Norm Lamothe at Woodleigh Farms to showcase various Nitrogen Management Trials he is working on. Adaptive Nitrogen Trials (ANT): A collaborative initiative between the OSN\, EFAO\, and Farmers for Climate Solutions (FCS) which supports farmers in trialing the profitability of various N application rates in corn following a cover crop. Plant Available Nitrogen (PAN): A continuing trial with the EFAO looking at how cover crops contribute to plant available nitrogen in the following growing season. Living Lab Ontario (LL – ON): is a five-year innovation project that brings together farmers\, organizations\, researchers\, and other experts to co-develop\, test\, and evaluate beneficial management practices (BMPs) that address climate change challenges in livestock and cropping systems. This event is funded in part by Farmers for Climate Solutions FaRM Program \nWhen? Monday July 7 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm \nWhere? 528 Sharpe Line Cavan\, ON L0A 1C0 \nREGISTER FOR THE EVENT \nExploring Nitrogen Strategies On-Farm with Norm Lamothe is an OSCIA-recognized Knowledge Sharing Event (KSE) for farmers with On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF) projects in the Nitrogen Management category.

SUMMARY:Pasture & Plot Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:There is always so much to see and learn at Woodleigh Farms! Norm Lamothe will share how strategies like reduced tillage\, cover cropping\, diverse crop rotations\, soil organic amendments\, precision ag and rotational grazing (new!) work together to help his farm improve soil health and reduce environmental impact while maintaining profitability. \nIn this plot and pasture walking tour\, you’ll see: \n\nA newly established Rotational Grazing System for sheep\nRecently established Operation Pollinator habitat in field margins\nOn-farm biochar composting\nONFARM research plots\nand more!\n\nThis event is FREE to attend. Lunch included. Registration is required. This is a walking tour; please dress appropriately for field conditions (e.g.\, close-toed shoes). The tour will proceed rain or shine (barring severe inclement weather). \nQuestions can be directed to SARFIP@ontariosoilcrop.org. \nWe look forward to seeing you there!
