Well, every year is different this one is no exception! Our season started out looking like it would be delayed and then in 2 weeks it was done. Wow…a tribute to the capacity of our farmers to put the crop in. Hopefully now you can get caught up on your sleep.

I would encourage everyone to put the final additions on your summer meetings. I know that there were many planning meetings in advance, so I am looking forward to attending in person for a change.

The OSCIA provincial board is planning their annual summer meeting on August 21-23. Our first Vice President Steve Sickle is hosting this year and it should prove to be an interesting tour of his regenerative style of farming practices.

The “On Farm Climate Action Fund” has been announced but the details are not available yet. We do know that there are three categories for funding: 1. Nitrogen Management 2. Cover Cropping 3. We ask that you observe biosecurity with respect to the Avian Flu epidemic. Some small flock operations can be at risk and at risk of being a carrier. Please have respect when visiting nearby poultry operations.  More information can be found at:  https://www.poultryindustrycouncil.ca/resources

Last but not least, OFA has spearheaded an initiative to help connect producers with resources to help stay ahead of mental health crisis. The number to call is 1-866-267-6255 and more information can be found at: https://ontario.cmha.ca/farming-mental-health/farmer-wellness-initiative/
