The NSSCIA annual summer crop tour was held on July 13th. First stop was at Nahuis Farms to look at soft red winter wheat that had Moddus applied to a portion to compare standability. Downed wheat was observed on much of the farm. Next was the farm of Doug Ritchie where wheat had been planted with a split row planter. Then we drove to Pearson Farms where a strong field of winter canola was looked at. We finished at Giffen elevators where Larry Giffen gave us a tour and told us the many additions added over time.

Our club’s bus trip got back on track after missing a few years because of Covid. About 50 people went on the 3-day trip along the north shore of Georgian Bay to Sault Ste Marie. Many sites of interest were toured. Special thanks to Glenn Simpson for doing all the leg work.

Congratulations to Avery Lovering who was awarded a scholarship from our club to assist in her studies at University of Guelph.

Much of the summer weather has been unsettled with smoke also blocking out the sun. It’s made for a long harvest. Hopefully we’ll get a nice open fall.
