Please join the North Simcoe SCIA for an afternoon crop tour on August 18th 2022.
The tour will begin at 2 pm sharp, at the farm of Andy Van Niekerk: 2035 Airport Road, Stayner. Andy will show twin row soybeans on 30” centres, a small plot of chick peas, and manure to standing corn that did not happen!
At 3:30 pm the tour will move to Bert Klaasse’ farm: 2551 Flos Rd 6 W, Phelpston where the group will look at 20″ corn and more.
At 4:45 pm the tour will continue with Matt Verver’s farm: 1827 Flos Rd 8 W, Phelpston for a drone demonstration, plus a look at July 15th soybeans, and a rye, sunflower and red clover mix broadcast, drilled and strip tilled after wheat as a cover crop.
There is no pre-registration required for this tour, and all are welcome!
The following are suggested travel instructions:
From Andy’s, S on Airport Rd to sideroad along his farm. East to Centerline Rd – Doug Graham’s elevator off to left- right ¼ mile and turn left onto Sunnidale 7th line. Cross ¾ Sideroad, BJC Dairy’s soybeans on left into alfalfa after 1st cut. At County Rd 10, potatoes on right with center pivot irrigation (which has been running lately). Left on County Rd 10; at the big curve, twin row soybeans planted into hay that was sprayed and harvested, 8 row planter, Eric Spears. I’d continue north (past Hwy 26) to 12th line and turn east until stop sign at Vigo Road in Flos. Turn N, take second right to Bart Klaasse farm at #2551, south side. East to Crossland Road. Turn left, take second right on 8th line. Matt Ververs is #1827 on south side. Grain bins close to road.
