Over the past decade, through the Agricultural Greenhouse Gases Program (AGGP), Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) has helped farmers like you adopt technologies, practices and processes that reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs).

By focusing on both the root causes of agricultural GHGs and nutrient losses from agricultural systems, AGGP projects increased farmers’ knowledge of beneficial management practices (BMPs) for livestock, cropping, water use and agroforestry.

AGGP has greatly contributed to better strategies for climate change adaptation across the agricultural sector, and is a good example of how the Government of Canada is working to address climate change.

It’s our pleasure to share interview stories to showcase three pivotal BMPs carried out under AGGP:

The First Sixteen Podcast – EP 017 – Reducing greenhouse gasses with drainage systems

Good News Grows – Money grows on trees – Dr. Colin Laroque’s shelterbelt app saves trees across Canada

Growing legumes to reduce greenhouse gases

Through Canada’s strengthened climate plan, A Healthy Environment and a Healthy Economy, we continue to help farmers to develop and adopt agricultural management practices to reduce emissions, store carbon in healthy soil and enhance resiliency.

AAFC’s work continues as we recently announced $550 million in federal investments to support the development and adoption of clean technologies and beneficial management practices. Please visit our website for more information about current programming, including: the $165.7-million Agricultural Clean Technology (ACT) program; the $185-million Agricultural Climate Solutions (ACS) – Living Labs program; and the $200-million Agricultural Climate Solutions (ACS) – On-Farm Climate Action Fund program.

We believe farmers are essential to helping Canada meet its climate goals. We thank you for your tremendous efforts.
