As the 2025 crop year comes to a close I think we can be grateful for a mostly good crop across Grey County. Yields may not be quite as strong as 2024 but they have mostly been very good with good quality as well. Corn harvest is still progressing with roughly 40% harvested at this point. High grain moistures and poor field drying have slowed harvest progress. I would like to say that Grey Soil and Crop has also had a successful year. Volunteers have come together to plan great events like the summer crop walk and the upcoming AGM. The commitment of these volunteers makes Soil and Crop a great local source of peer to peer practical information and social activities that we all enjoy. Without volunteers, Soil and Crop would cease to exist in Grey County. Our local club is admired by many counties that struggle to host activities due to a lack of volunteers. Lets keep this in mind as we plan for 2026 and I encourage you to participate in the planning. The time commitment is minimal and your ideas would be heard and appreciated.

Speaking of social activities, you will see that our AGM format is a bit different this year. We are hosting an evening event with a hot meal and guest speaker. Spouses are welcome and encouraged to come out as well. I hope to see everyone there and would love to hear your feedback after.

I hope everyone has a safe final run to complete harvest. May your bins be full!

Thanks

Deb Campbell

Grey County SCIA President
