As I write this report, many farmers are wrapping up the last few fields of soybean planting, and many livestock producers have begun 1st cut hay. It is crazy to think that on May 8 after a week of rain there was hardly anything planted at all. It just goes to show with the larger equipment we work with now in agriculture, and the incredible drive and determination of all involved, just how quick things can be accomplished. I have the unique perspective of being a farmer myself, and also working in the ag retail industry. That week in the middle of May was one of the busiest I can remember. I commend all farmers for being so productive, and also for their patience and commitment to working with their input suppliers.

Grey County SCIA has been hard at work planning our annual summer crop walk. This year’s event will be held at Ken Mitchell’s farm in Annan on Tuesday July 18th. A highlight of the day will be having the OSCIA mobile screen trailer on hand which will be used to do demonstrations and analysis of various soil pits at Ken’s farm. OMAFRA staff will be on hand to discuss soil health and what we can learn from these soil pits. Watch for an invite and detailed agenda for this event, you won’t want to miss it!!

After a busy spring season, I hope you can take some time to relax with your family and friends. And hopefully we can get a few timely rains along the way as well. Hopefully we will see you at the in-person Grey County crop walk on July 18th and the Lee Briese virtual Georgian event on July 27th.
