Hello everyone, my name is Brandon Dietrich and I am excited to start my 2 year term as President of Georgian Soil and Crop. I would like to give a big thank you to Kristen Carberry for navigating Georgian SCIA through many zoom meetings through Covid. I have been president of Grey County SCIA for the past year and a half and I look forward to my term with Georgian. I know it has been a very busy spring throughout the region. After a slow start in May, we had a good stretch of weather and I believe we got caught up to a somewhat normal finishing date for planting.

For those who don’t know me; I dairy farm with my father in the Desboro area in Grey County, very close to the Grey-Bruce line. I also work for Sprucedale Agromart in Hanover doing sales and agronomy work. I enjoy the mix of work between the two roles and I feel that it gives me a good feel for what is happening in agriculture in the area.

On behalf of both Georgian and Grey County SCIA, I would like to give a big congratulations to Ray Robertson on his recent induction into the Ontario Agricultural Hall of Fame. I have known Ray for many years and this award is most definitely deserved. His work with Soil and Crop is just a portion of what he has contributed to Ontario agriculture. I think we can all agree that Ray’s work in the past has put Georgian SCIA in a position to thrive for years to come. I invite you all to the Grey County crop walk on July 18th where we will congratulate Ray on his accomplishments!!

With that, I wish all the counties within Georgian SCIA success with all of your events. I know they are always very much enjoyed by the membership. And hopefully we can get some rains along the way to help bring these crops along.

Brandon Dietrich, President, Georgian Central Region SCIA.
