On February 22nd 2022, the North Simcoe SCIA will be partnering with the Severn Sound Environmental Association to present ‘Soil Health – What does it mean to me, and why should I care?’
So; why should you care? They have an excellent line up of speakers for one….
The Honourable Rob Black, Senator for Ontario will open the meeting with a welcome message. He’s personally interested in promoting the importance of soil health and research. Take a look here at an opinion piece of his from back in 2019. It’s his theory that not just farmers need to be concerned about soil health – everyone does.
Following Senator Black, we will hear from Daniel Saurette of OMAFRA with an update on the ‘Ontario Topsoil Project’. Did you hear him speak at the Ontario Agricultural Conference in January? His team has taken on a goal of collecting 1500 soil samples from across Ontario and have some preliminary findings to share as they look at a whole lot of dirt!
Deb Campbell from Agronomy Advantage is a familiar face to the Georgian Central SCIA. Always bringing excellent content to the table, she is going to tell us about her experience with ‘Marrying Agronomic and Environmental Goals’, and how that can successfully be done.
The presentations will round out with a farmer panel speaking on their experiences with soil health management. Two from Simcoe and one from Bruce will speak to the topic – because no ag soil health discussion would be complete without bringing it back to the farm!
All are welcome to attend this free afternoon webinar. The meeting will be officially opened at 1:00 pm, although everyone is encouraged to log on early, sort out technology, and socialize before things get started.
