SUMMARY:Profitable Pastures Webinar Series (Virtual) - Growing grass\, supporting livestock: Nitrogen in pasture systems
DESCRIPTION:Profitable Pastures Webinar Series – March 3rd at 7:30pm EST \nGrowing grass\, supporting livestock: Nitrogen in pasture systems with Caroline Reisiger \nPerennial cool-season pastures are the backbone of beef production in Ontario\, yet nitrogen (N) application remains an overlooked strategy in pasture research. This talk explores how strategic N fertilization can increase pasture productivity\, stocking rates\, and calf output in rotationally grazed systems. Field-scale research from a 64-acre cow-calf pasture in Elora\, Ontario demonstrates that increasing rates of polymer-coated urea boosted forage yield primarily through enhanced grass growth\, supporting higher stocking density and greater beef production per acre. Environmental trade-offs are also examined\, highlighting how improved N management may help producers balance productivity and sustainability. \nMore info at https://onforagenetwork.ca/ontario-forage-council/profitable-pastures/. \nProfitable pastures \n*This event is recognized as OSCIA OFCAF KSE under BMP category Nitrogen Management

SUMMARY:Building for the Future: Considerations for New Dairy Barns
DESCRIPTION:Dairy farms with aging barns that are close to outlasting their intended lifespan present producers with opportunities to renew their housing. The decision to invest in the future brings many options into focus. This presentation will examine the process and discuss features that producers may want to consider as options to include. This course aims to discuss cow comfort considerations and future opportunities such as manure handling for future co-products\, in-barn technology options\, creating efficiencies for labour and tips for the planning process. Presented by Cynthia Miltenburg\, Angie Wilson\, Christoph Wand\, Tom Wright of OMAFA. Attend in-person at Grey Ag Services in Markdale\, cost is $20.00 per person.

SUMMARY:Improving Nitrogen Use Efficiency in Canola (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:The Ontario Certified Crop Advisor Association (CCA) and Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA) have partnered to deliver training and educational resources to Ontario Advisors. With a focus on cover crops\, nitrogen management\, and rotational grazing\, these sessions will support the objectives of the On-Farm Climate Action Fund. Check out the full webinar series schedule here. \nJoin us on Wednesday\, March 11 for a conversation with Dr. Mario Tenuta as he shares the latest research on helping farmers optimize fertilizer nitrogen use\, reduce nitrous oxide (N₂O) emissions\, and enhance soil health and crop productivity in canola. A key piece of this is conducting farm-based research\, with particular attention to the outreach of findings to farmers\, industry\, and policymakers\, all to the goal of positioning Canada on a path towards net-zero food production. \nFunding for this project has been provided by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada through the Agricultural Climate Solutions (ACS) – On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF). \nThis event is free to attend. CEUs 1.0 Crop Management. This webinar is an OSCIA-recognized Knowledge Sharing Event (KSE) for applicants with On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF) projects in the Nitrogen Management category (only available for the live webinar). \nREGISTER HERE
