DESCRIPTION:Registration is now open for the 2024 Profitable Pastures webinar series! The Ontario Forage Network has three excellent speakers lined up to help you get the most out of your pasture. This year’s webinars will take place from 8:00 pm until 9:00 pm Eastern time on March 5th\, 6th\, and 7th. \nTuesday\, March 5\, 2024\nGetting Started on Rotational Grazing with Joe Dickenson \nThere is a lot of emphasis on rotational grazing right now. Everyone is talking about the environmental and production benefits that rotational grazing can bring to a farm. While conversations are ongoing around how to improve an existing rotational system\, it can be hard to find information on how to start. Joe’s talk aims to address that gap. \nFor more information or to register\, visit https://onforagenetwork.ca/ontario-forage-council/profitable-pastures/  \nNote: These sessions must be attended live in order to qualify as a Knowledge Sharing Event. SUMMARY:Seeding Success - Farm Business Practices Assessment Workshops
DESCRIPTION:It’s no secret – primary producers who adopt farm business management practices enjoy increased\nprofitability\, confidence\, peace of mind and family and farm team harmony.\nBut\, what are the best practices when it comes to farm business management? And\, where do you begin?\nThe Seeding Success: Farm Business Practices Assessment Workshop (known in some regions as Growing\nYour Farm Profits and others as Taking Stock) is designed to help producers improve their business\npractices by combining self-assessment and action plan development with access to support resources to\nachieve results: Assess\, Act\, Achieve! \nWho Should Attend?\nThe one-day workshop is free and open to all producers – new and established. Farm families and\nmanagement teams are encouraged to attend the workshop together. \nWhat to Expect?\nParticipants will work their way through a series of self-assessment questions to identify their current\npractices under key management areas:\n1. Production Management\n2. Marketing\n3. Financial Management\n4. Human Resources\n5. Succession Planning\n6. Social Responsibility\n7. Business Goals \n\n\nBased on their self-assessment\, participants will identify their top priority areas for improvement to start creating action plans. SUMMARY:Grassland Bird Conservation on Farms
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: Zoe Lebrun-Southcott\, Dr Andrew Campmozzi and Hanna Kirchmeir\, all of Bird Ecology and Conservation Ontario \nSaturday February 24th\, 2024\, 1:30 – 3:30 pm at Grey Ag Services. \nCost: $20.00. Please register here to attend in-person. \n\n\n\n\nGrassland bird species at risk\, such as bobolink\, rely on hayfields and pastures for nesting habitat in Ontario. Bird Ecology and Conservation Ontario\, a small non-profit organization\, has been working with farmers since 2016 to implement stewardship for nesting grassland birds while trying to minimize negative impacts on farm production. Join us to learn about the grassland birds that may be nesting in your hayfields and pastures and to find out what we have learned so far about the challenges and opportunities for grassland bird conservation in agricultural grasslands. We encourage course participants to share details about their farm operations for a collaborative discussion about finding ways to make space for nesting grassland birds in hayfield and pasture management plans.
