SUMMARY:On-Farm Research Meet Up (Niagara)
DESCRIPTION:Join OSCIA and Larry Dyck at Campden Grain to talk all things on-farm research\, nitrogen efficiency\, cover cropping and soil health! \nFor years\, Larry Dyck and his family have been experimenting with practices like no-till\, cover cropping and planting green to make their clay soils more manageable and resilient. Larry’s search for knowledge has contributed to his decision to participate in applied research programs like ONFARM and Living Lab – Ontario. \nLearn more about the on-farm research underway at Larry’s farm\, including: \nONFARM \nThe On-Farm Applied Research and Monitoring (ONFARM) program is a nine-year applied research initiative that supports soil health and water quality research on farms across Ontario. Hear from researchers at the Soil Resource Group about Larry’s ONFARM trial comparing different cover crop mixes (including a biostrip treatment) to increase organic matter and improve soil structure. \nLiving Lab – Ontario \nThe Living Lab – Ontario (LL-ON) is a five-year innovation project that brings together farmers\, organizations\, researchers\, and other experts to co-develop\, test\, and evaluate beneficial management practices (BMPs) that address climate change challenges in livestock and cropping systems. Hear from Craig Drury\, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada\, who is working with farmers\, including Larry\, to trial various 4R strategies to enhance nitrogen use efficiency in corn. \nGreenbelt Foundation Soil Health Program \nThe Greenbelt Foundation will also be joining to discuss their Free Soil Health Program which aims to develop an interpretable\, scalable\, locally relevant method for evaluating and monitoring soil health. Enjoy a soil health demonstration and learn how farmers in York\, Durham\, and Niagara regions may be eligible for a free soil health report. \nRegistration is required. Visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/on-farm-research-meet-up-tickets-927263238307?aff=oddtdtcreator \nFor more information\, please contact onfarm@ontariosoilcrop.org. \n
