SUMMARY:Cover Crops: Myths and Challenges with Jake Munroe
DESCRIPTION:The Ontario Certified Crop Advisor Association (CCA) and Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA) have partnered to deliver training and educational resources to Ontario agrologists. With a focus on cover crops\, nitrogen management\, and rotational grazing\, these sessions will support the objectives of the On-Farm Climate Action Fund. Check out the full webinar series schedule here. \nJoin us on Wednesday\, November 12  for an interactive presentation: “Cover Crops: Myths and Challenges with Jake Munroe.” Jake Munroe is the Soil Management Specialist for Field Crops with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture\, Food and Agribusiness (OMAFA). Jake has expertise in soil fertility\, soil health\, and cover crop management. Through on-farm trials\, demonstrations\, and presentations\, he shares information with Ontario farmers on best management practices to improve soil management and crop production. His current projects include evaluating late-season cover crop establishment following corn and soybeans and managing cover crops on clay soils. Jake is a Certified Crop Advisor. In this presentation\, Jake will discuss misconceptions and challenges associated with cover cropping in Ontario. \nFunding for this project has been provided by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada through the Agricultural Climate Solutions (ACS) – On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF). \nThis event is free to attend. CEU credits are available. \nREGISTER HERE \nCover Crops: Myths and Challenges is an OSCIA-recognized Knowledge Sharing Event (KSE) for applicants with On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF) projects in the Cover Cropping category.

SUMMARY:Nitrogen Management and Challenges in Corn
DESCRIPTION:The Ontario Certified Crop Advisor Association (CCA) and Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA) have partnered to deliver training and educational resources to Ontario agrologists. With a focus on cover crops\, nitrogen management\, and rotational grazing\, these sessions will support the objectives of the On-Farm Climate Action Fund. Check out the full webinar series schedule here. \nJoin us on Wednesday\, October 29 with Dr. Dan Quinn for an interactive presentation “Nitrogen Management and Challenges in Corn”. In this webinar\, Dr. Dan Quinn dives deep into the complexities of nitrogen management in corn systems\, highlighting why this nutrient remains a stubborn challenge despite decades of research and innovation. Nitrogen isn’t going anywhere–literally or figuratively. Its management remains a moving target due to environmental variability\, evolving crop genetics\, and technological limitations. The solution? Control what you can: minimize losses\, optimize timing\, and tailor strategies to your field’s unique conditions. \nFunding for this project has been provided by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada through the Agricultural Climate Solutions (ACS) – On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF). \nThis event is free to attend. CEU credits are available. \nREGISTER HERE \nNitrogen Management and Challenges in Corn is an OSCIA-recognized Knowledge Sharing Event (KSE) for applicants with On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF) projects in the Nitrogen Management category.

SUMMARY:Rotational Grazing: Improving Soil Fertility for Nutrient-Dense Beef
DESCRIPTION:The Ontario Certified Crop Advisor Association (CCA) and Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA) have partnered to deliver training and educational resources to Ontario agrologists. With a focus on cover crops\, nitrogen management\, and rotational grazing\, these sessions will support the objectives of the On-Farm Climate Action Fund. Check out the full webinar series schedule here. \nJoin us on Wednesday\, October 15 with Randy Gamble for an interactive presentation “Rotational Grazing: Improving Soil Fertility for Nutrient-Dense Beef”. This presentation explores a grazing strategy that combines cover crops and nutrient reduction to enhance both pasture productivity and overall farm sustainability. While soil health is often emphasized in row crop systems\, it’s equally vital for grazed pastures–boosting forage quality and reducing reliance on fertilizers beyond just nitrogen. Nutrient-dense forage = nutrient-dense beef. By focusing on forage quality\, the farm produces healthier\, more nutrient-rich beef. \nFunding for this project has been provided by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada through the Agricultural Climate Solutions (ACS) – On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF). \nThis event is free to attend. CEU credits are available. \nREGISTER HERE \nRotational Grazing: Improving Soil Fertility for Nutrient-Dense Beef is an OSCIA-recognized Knowledge Sharing Event (KSE) for applicants with On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF) projects in the Rotational Grazing category.

SUMMARY:2025 ONFARM Forum
DESCRIPTION:Join us virtually on February 6\, 2025 between 9AM-12PM for our Annual ONFARM Research Forum! \nSince 2019\, the ONFARM program has completed extensive soil health and water quality analysis on farms across Ontario to build a stronger understanding of best management practices (BMPs) and their effect on soil health and water quality. SUMMARY:Organic Amendments and Cover Cropping Webinar
DESCRIPTION:This webinar and the following submission of field surface photos to AAFC’s Residue Measurement Survey are an OSCIA-recognized Knowledge Sharing Event (KSE) for farmers with On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF) projects in the Nitrogen Management and Cover Cropping categories. \nJoin OSCIA for an informative webinar on Organic Amendment Management and Cover Crops. \nFirst\, we’ll be hearing from Kevin Eisses about his organic amendment and cover cropping practices. Kevin operates Hewitt Creek Farms Ltd. in Innisfil and builds on a family tradition of dedication to soil health. In 2004 Kevin purchased a compost turner to help fine-tune his anaerobic composting process. As his operation has grown he has had to source municipal compost on top of his on-farm compost. Kevin is an ONFARM cooperator and his trial compares the use of organic amendment (solid municipal green bin compost) and multi-species cover crops. \nThen we’ll hear from Janet Harrop who operates Harrcroft Acres alongside her husband\, Ian\, and family. With the help of their kids\, the Harrop’s manage over 100 head dairy farm and 700 acres where they grow corn\, wheat\, soybeans\, and hay for their cows’ feed. Janet is passionate about family\, animal welfare\, farming\, and building a sustainable future through the decisions she makes right on her farm. She is a leader\, taking on a Living Lab research trial in her backyard where she works alongside Dr. Claudia Wagner-Riddle to study the impact of nutrient management practices on greenhouse gas emissions. \nFinally\, we will be hearing from Sam Schultz (AAFC) about the uses of satellite imagery in agriculture! She will also cover how to use AAFC’s Residue Measurement Survey where farmers can submit photos of their field surface to help improve interpretation of satellite imagery. \nEvery submission to AAFC’s Residue Survey\, enters you in a chance to win one of ten $250 Visa Gift Cards! \nPlease note\, to qualify as a KSE\, farmers must attend this webinar AND make 1 submission (of 3 field surface photos) to AAFC’s Residue Measurement Survey. Instructions on how to use the survey will be given during the webinar and emailed to attendees following the webinar. \nIf you have any questions\, don’t hesitate to email research@ontariosoilcrop.org. \nRegister (free) HERE.
