SUMMARY:Understanding Urease and Nitrification Inhibitors
DESCRIPTION:The Ontario Certified Crop Advisor Association (CCA) and Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA) have partnered to deliver training and educational resources to Ontario agrologists. With a focus on cover crops\, nitrogen management\, and rotational grazing\, these sessions will support the objectives of the On-Farm Climate Action Fund. Check out the full webinar series schedule here. \nJoin us on Wednesday\, January 28 with Dr. John Lauzon to explore how urease and nitrification inhibitors can reduce nitrogen losses in agricultural systems and improve nitrogen use efficiency. Nitrogen is essential for crop growth\, yet a significant portion of applied fertilizer is often lost through ammonia volatilization\, nitrification\, denitrification\, and leaching. These losses reduce crop uptake\, increase production costs\, and contribute to environmental impacts such as nitrous oxide emissions and water contamination. \nFunding for this project has been provided by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada through the Agricultural Climate Solutions (ACS) – On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF). \nThis event is free to attend. CEUs 1.0 Nutrient Management available (Pending Approval). This webinar is an OSCIA-recognized Knowledge Sharing Event (KSE) for applicants with On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF) projects in the Nitrogen Management category (only available for the live webinar). \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Nitrogen Management and Challenges in Corn
DESCRIPTION:The Ontario Certified Crop Advisor Association (CCA) and Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA) have partnered to deliver training and educational resources to Ontario agrologists. With a focus on cover crops\, nitrogen management\, and rotational grazing\, these sessions will support the objectives of the On-Farm Climate Action Fund. Check out the full webinar series schedule here. \nJoin us on Wednesday\, October 29 with Dr. Dan Quinn for an interactive presentation “Nitrogen Management and Challenges in Corn”. In this webinar\, Dr. Dan Quinn dives deep into the complexities of nitrogen management in corn systems\, highlighting why this nutrient remains a stubborn challenge despite decades of research and innovation. Nitrogen isn’t going anywhere–literally or figuratively. Its management remains a moving target due to environmental variability\, evolving crop genetics\, and technological limitations. The solution? Control what you can: minimize losses\, optimize timing\, and tailor strategies to your field’s unique conditions. \nFunding for this project has been provided by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada through the Agricultural Climate Solutions (ACS) – On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF). \nThis event is free to attend. SUMMARY:Rotational Grazing: Improving Soil Fertility for Nutrient-Dense Beef
\nJoin us on Wednesday\, October 15 with Randy Gamble for an interactive presentation “Rotational Grazing: Improving Soil Fertility for Nutrient-Dense Beef”. This presentation explores a grazing strategy that combines cover crops and nutrient reduction to enhance both pasture productivity and overall farm sustainability. While soil health is often emphasized in row crop systems\, it’s equally vital for grazed pastures–boosting forage quality and reducing reliance on fertilizers beyond just nitrogen. Nutrient-dense forage = nutrient-dense beef. By focusing on forage quality\, the farm produces healthier\, more nutrient-rich beef. \nFunding for this project has been provided by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada through the Agricultural Climate Solutions (ACS) – On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF). \nThis event is free to attend. CEU credits are available. \nREGISTER HERE \nRotational Grazing: Improving Soil Fertility for Nutrient-Dense Beef is an OSCIA-recognized Knowledge Sharing Event (KSE) for applicants with On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF) projects in the Rotational Grazing category.

DESCRIPTION:Join us virtually on February 6\, 2025 between 9AM-12PM for our Annual ONFARM Research Forum! \nSince 2019\, the ONFARM program has completed extensive soil health and water quality analysis on farms across Ontario to build a stronger understanding of best management practices (BMPs) and their effect on soil health and water quality. Originally a four-year program\, ONFARM was renewed until 2028. \nDuring the Forum\, we will explore: \n\nThe effects of organic amendment applications and cover crops on yields\, soil health\, and water quality\nHow to interpret carbon and nitrogen soil health indicators\, and which ones are most helpful for tracking improvements in soil health\nThe impacts of cover crops on runoff generation and water quality\nWater quality and soil health opportunities and challenges in Ontario\n\nPlease register for the Forum here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZEpdeisrDsuG9HK3ODeIjfwbcmNO_8rm7ky#/registration \nPlease check back in mid-January for more information on our sessions and our speakers. \nONFARM is currently funded by the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership\, a five-year federal-provincial-territorial initiative.
