Trees at Twilight: Exploring Field Boundary Habitats

Join us for Trees at Twilight: A Living Lab – Ontario Field Tour as we explore how field boundary habitats can influence crop performance and environmental sustainability.

As part of Living Labs Ontario, research is being conducted to quantify the impacts of Field Boundary Habitats in southern Ontario, on working farms. At the Whale Family’s Clovermead Farm, researchers from the University of Guelph and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada began a two-year field study in 2025. Researchers are investigating how measurements for soil carbon, greenhouse gas emissions, crop yield and the soil microbiome change with distance from field boundary habitats. Four sites on the farm were selected for their field boundary habitats (windbreak, riparian buffer, woodlot).
