Stormont Seed and Forage Show Entries

The 68th Annual Stormont Seed & Forage Show will be held on February 27-28, 2025 in conjunction with the Crysler Farm Show.  The Seed and Forage Show is open to all farmers who are a member of the Stormont Soil and Crop Improvement Association.
SSCIA membership is $40/year, Business Ad $75/year payable when bringing exhibits in if not already prepaid.
Exhibitors may only show in one show.  Rules and regulations are:
1. All exhibits must have been grown in Stormont County in 2024 by the exhibitor.  Only one entry per exhibitor/farm entity per class is permitted.  Variety is not to be named. All placings are at judge’s discretion as to worthiness.
2. All entries must be untreated in order to display their natural colour.  Does not apply to Classes 22-40, 52,53, 4-H>108,109.
3. Entries will be accepted from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., WEDNESDAY, February 26, 2025 at the Crysler Community Centre and must be displayed in plastic bags available at the show or from Barbara-Ann Glaude,613-861-9080, scia-stormont@ontariosoilcrop.org
4. Any exhibitor violating any rule of the Show will forfeit his/her Prize Money/Gifts.
5. The management will not be responsible for loss or damage to any exhibit or for the return of exhibits or containers.
6. Up to two exhibits per class per County as approved by the judges will be eligible for exhibiting at the Ottawa Valley Seed Show, March 2025.
7      To be eligible to show at the Ottawa Valley Seed Show, all exhibits must have been judged at the Stormont Seed and Forage Show.
8.    All exhibits which are not going to the Ottawa Valley Farm Show must be removed from the hall by the exhibitor immediately               following the Awards Presentation at 3:00 p.m. on February 28, 2025.
PRIZE MONEY: 1ST $15.00, 2ND $10.00, 3RD $5.00, 4TH $5.00, 5TH $5.00 or equitable prize to replace cash. Other Special Awards will        be assigned at the discretion of the Committee.

A Hay/straw exhibit must consist of two 4″ flakes, machine baled,  in polyethylene bags and tied together, each lot identified with three entry tags, one on the inside of each bag and one tied securely on the outside of the bag. Samples must be cut to fit OVSS sample bag. “Large bale samples must be cut to a similar size”.

Class 51 Best Sheaf of Cereal Grain – sheaf may be constructed of Oat, Barley, Wheat or Rye plants.  Sheaf must be mounted to be self standing.  No exhibitor may make more than one entry per kind (ie) 1 sheaf of oats & 1 sheaf of barley but not two sheaves of oats. Only OVSS Prizes of 1st-$80, 2nd-$60, 3rd-$50, any other worthy exhibit $30.
For Classes 52A, 52B,53A and 53B > only OVSS Prizes of 1st-$80, 2nd-$55, 3rd-$30, 4th-$25, 5th-$20, 6th-$15, any other worthy exhibit $10. 1 entry/exhibitor allowed for each of 52A, 52B, 53A & 53B.
Class 52 Ottawa Valley Hay Quality Competition- The top 2 exhibits from 52A – Hay -1 machine baled flake and 52B – Haylage – 2.5kg sample, will have the opportunity to exhibit at OVSS. Indicate the cut, 1st, 2nd , or 3rdcut.
Class 53 Export Hay Competition- 53A – 1st cut square bale   53B – 2nd cut square bale. 2 bales/class will have the opportunity to exhibit at OVSS, Samples will be judged for export by weight and quality. An exhibit consists of 1 complete small square bale of hay. The ideal bale will be 36″ long and weigh between 50 and 55 pounds.

at the Crysler Farm Show. Classes 100-130 must be entered at the Stormont Seed and Forage Show, February 27-28, 2025 being held at the Crysler Farm Show.  Entries will be accepted 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., February 26, 2025.  Entry tags and numbers are available from Barbara-Ann Glaude. 613-861-9080  NOTE: items entered in the fall at Stormont County Fair 2024 will automatically be placed in the appropriate OVSS class if the item is available.
These entries will go on to the Ottawa Valley Seed Show, March 2025 for official judging.  Open to any 4-H member who completed a 4-H project in 2024 in Stormont County. Only one exhibit per class, prepared by member.  No membership fee required.  Prize money will awarded after judging at the Ottawa Valley Farm Show. If, in the opinion of the judge, an exhibit is not worthy of first place, a prize worthy of the entry will awarded. The Canadian 4-H emblem (at least 2×2″ in 4-H green) is to be located anywhere on the front of posters and exhibits.  Name, Age (as of January 1, 2024), Club and County to be on printed on the back of the poster.  All posters must have a title.  Classes 110-124 Junior 14 & under, Senior 15 & over as of January 1, 2024.     Prize money Class 100-123,125,126:$25,$23,$21,$19,$17,$15, any other worthy exhibit $10.  Class 100-109 Grown in 2024 Class 124: $60,$50,$40,any other worthy exhibit $20; Class 127,128,129; $30, $25,$20, any other worthy entry $15 **see www.ottawafarmshow.com for extra info

Class 113 Collection of 10 actual weed specimens, pressed, labelled and identified.  In a book (Standard 1″ binder) or duotang,  or as a poster (approx. 22″ x 28″). Weeds as identified in the Canadian Weed Seed Order.

Class 123 A 4-H Project Book (standard 1″ binder) related to any 4-H project completed during the Club Year 2024.
Class 124 ARTISTIC DISPLAY This class does not have to be shown at an achievement day before coming to the
Ottawa Farm Show.         Junior (9 to 14) and Senior (15 and over) divisions   Theme: “A World Around Us Celebrating Nature” using seeds, grains, and field crop materials. Display must be mounted on plywood. Size not to exceed 15” by 15” (37 cm x 37cm) by 1.5” (4 cm). Oversize exhibits will be disqualified. The materials used do not have to be produced by the exhibitor but must be produced in Ontario.  Creativity = 50%; Materials = 35%;       Neatness = 15% 1st $60 2nd $50 3rd $40, any other worthy exhibit $20.
Class 125 A craft activity completed as part of a Cloverbud club
Class 126 A poster depicting an antivity at a Cloverbud meeting
Class 127 4-H CLUB EXHIBIT- Open to any 4-H Club.  Exhibits displayed at fairs or exhibitions in 2024 are eligible for this class.  Table
     space of 36″ x 30″ will be provided for the exhibit.  Exhibit not to exceed 42 inches height and should be free standing.  The exhibit is to be
     educational in nature.  The exhibit must be prepared by two or more members of the same club.
Class 128 4-H MEMBER EXHIBIT- Topic related to 4-H project completed in 2024   Table space of 36″ x 30″ will be provided for the
     exhibit. Exhibit should not exceed 42 inches height and should be free standing.
Class 129 4-H Presentation – Video or PowerPoint As per the guidelines of your 4-H Association.  To be submitted on a portable USB drive.
Class 130  Best Sheaf of Cereal Grain- Sheaf may be constructed of Oat or Barley or Wheat plants. Mounted to be self-standing.
    Can enter one sheaf of each type of grain. 1st $80 2nd $60 3rd $50, any other worthy exhibit $30.
