Exploring Agro-Ecological Benefits of Rotational Grazing (Bruce County)

September 19, 2023 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Join OSCIA for an informative pasture walk and presentation and explore the agro-ecological benefits of integrated practices like rotational grazing and cover cropping, such as improved biodiversity and species at risk habitat protection, enhanced soil and water quality, nutrient cycling and mitigating net greenhouse gas emissions.

Peter Kotzeff is a beef veterinarian and farmer who owns and manages over 2000 acres of cropland, pasture and protected woodland, wetland, and riverbanks in Bruce County – much of which is considered marginal land with irregular sloped fields. By integrating intensive (or strip) cattle grazing, minimal tillage, cover crops and sensible crop rotation, Peter has observed improved soil structure, greater nutrient availability, and a healthier river.

Participants will also hear from:

  • Andrew Campomizzi, Research Scientist, Birds Ecology Conservation Ontario
  • Kim Schneider, Assistant Professor in Forage and Service Crops, University of Guelph
