This summer, the Living Lab -Ontario Farm cooperators are hosting field days to showcase the innovations being researched through the Living Lab-Ontario project.  The farm cooperators in the LL-ON project will be sharing their experience and results. Farm collaborators will be joined by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada research scientists and other guest presenters who will share results and takeaways from the project.

 

August 10

2:00-4:00 pm Living Lab – Ontario, Relay Cropping Field Day

Join Greg Vermeersch & AAFC researchers for a field day showcasing Living Lab -Ontario relay cropping field trials. Event details and registration here.

 

August 17

5:00 – 8:00 pm Living Lab – Ontario, No-till Organic Soybeans and Alfalfa-Fueled Corn, Wallenstein

Join Brett Israel to learn how double cropping soys with winter barley and cereal rye. Brett will also be showcasing the soil health impacts and yields from his alfalfa fertilized corn. There is no registration fee for this event. Dinner will be available for purchase at the event. Please bring cash to the event if you intend to purchase a meal. Register here.

 

August 29

2:00- 4:00 pm Living Lab -Ontario, No-till Potato Field Day, St. Thomas

Join Ken Laing of Orchard Hill Farm to learn about the equipment, techniques and cover crops that he has tried for no-till potatoes. These techniques are based on mid-scale trials but have benefits to smaller or larger scale production systems. Register here.

 

August 30

2:00 – 4:00 pm Living Lab – Ontario, Perennial Cover Crops Field Day, Dresden

Join Woody Van Arkel and AAFC researchers to learn about the success and challenges of using perennial cover. How do nitrogen management and spraying programs change when the cover crops are perennial? Learn about subterranean clover, unicorn drills and row mow machines at this innovative cropping trial. September 9

11:00 am to 3:00 pm Living Lab -Ontario, Making a Conservation Farming System Work, Kingsville

For Henry Denotter “it is all about the water”. Henry will discuss his no-till practices, cropping systems and equipment modifications that he uses to reduce water quality impacts and improve his soil health and crop yields. Henry will be joined by researchers from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the ONFARM project who will share results of the various studies conducted on his farm.  This event is FREE to attend. BBQ lunch included. Registration is required.
