The AFA is looking to connect with a small number of farmers and agronomists affiliated with the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association who’d like to test-drive AgSat in 2021. See their message below:
Today, satellite imagery is changing the way that many Canadian farmers manage their land and grow their crops and pasture. It has also allowed agronomists and crop consultants to serve their clients more effectively.
Even so, barriers of cost and complexity are keeping many others from taking advantage of this technology.
That’s why we developed AgSat.
AgSat is a new online tool that makes it easy and affordable for Canadian farmers to get timely, high-quality satellite images of their land. Developed in partnership with the Alberta Federation of Agriculture and Aquanty Inc., AgSat gives farmers the ability to:
- track soil moisture and temperature
- monitor crop progress and agronomic threats
- stay on top of weather as it develops
- farm with better information and more confidence.
We’re offering a free trial for those who can commit to using and evaluating AgSat during this growing season. Testers are asked to:
- provide a cell phone number as the main line of contact
- attend a brief online orientation to get them started with AgSat
- assess AgSat’s online platform, background materials and user experience
- share how they’re using the program
- rate its functionality and value
- be available for between one and three short phone calls with the AgSat team.
If you have any questions, or are interested in participating, please contact Shannon Scofield at shannon.scofield@afaonline.ca
