2022 Province Wide Ontario Biostrip Till Tailgate Tour (And chats about conventional strip till & green planting as well!)
Coming to a Farm or Research Station Near You this spring, late summer, and late fall to show how Biostrips grow throughout the year.
This Spring Dates: April 13, 19, 21, 25
There are always innovative people doing interesting things out on the farm fields across Ontario. Biostrip till where different recipes of cover crops are seeded after cereal harvest into “corn” and “wheel” row patterns is a relatively new concept. Here the corn row cover crops die out over winter, are gently cleared out of the row in spring and corn is planted, while the wheel row area has overwintering cover crops that green up in spring offering soil protection and support for farm equipment.
There is also a lot of work that has gone into strip till and green planting concepts. These have taken off in some areas and not others.
While you wait to get on the land, join us for the 2022 Ontario Biostrip Tailgate Tour coming to a farm near you April 13, 19, 21, 25th. The tour will be repeated in late summer and late fall so that you can see these systems at various points of the season. Take in one stop, or all of them as fits your interest and schedule.
This is an informal tour where hosts will be available for 2 hour blocks (see schedule) to talk to those who attend about the opportunities and obstacles of their systems and where they are going from here. Please park safely on the roadsides at the various locations and come prepared for any weather. No refreshments or facilities will be available on site so plan accordingly.
What is BioStrip Till?
While there are many flavours, it essentially is replacing steel with plants to do the tillage. It is the practice where alternating rows of cover crops mixes are planted to mimic strip tillage, AKA “biological” strip tillage. Come and see what the possibilities are.
